“Turan” lyceum-school’s academic program is largely based on the National Curriculum of the Republic of Kazakhstan but also has lyceum component which includes a variety of supplements such as the French and German languages, the theory of creative problem solving, Choreography and Gymnastics.

The National Curriculum for Kazakhstan is divided into three Key Stages.

  • Key Stage 1: (forms 1 to 4)

  • Key Stage 2: (forms 5 to 9)

  • Key Stage 3: (forms 9 and 10)

At Key stage 1, our aim for children is to enjoy their time at school and develop knowledge, understanding and values in order to reach their full potential in all academic and social areas of school life. Subject areas include the Mother tongue (Russian), the Kazakh and English Languages, Mathematics, Nature study, Art and Craft, Music, Physical Education (including choreography from Year 1) and Information technology.

The core subjects of the National Curriculum at Key Stages 2 and 3 are: History of Kazakhstan, Mathematics, the Kazakh and Russian languages.

Other subjects include: The World History; Geography; Information Technologies; Physics; Chemistry; Biology; Music; Art; Physical Education; The elements of applied mathematics; Russian and Kazakh literature; The Basic Military Preparation.

Year 11 students take the UNT examinations (United National Testing) in the four “core” (History of Kazakhstan, Mathematics, Kazakh and Russian languages) and one optional subjects of the National Curriculum. The choice of optional subject depends upon a student's likely course at university, and likely future career. Following successful results in UNT examinations, students get the Certificate of General Secondary Education and go on to university or other institutions of higher education.

Acceptance at Kazakhstan universities will depend upon the results gained at UNT (and also take into account success at CGSE).
